  1. I would have to agree with the BSU-UNO pic – especially Tyler’s comments – unfortunately.  BSU cannot seem to find offensive chemistry this year.  Defensively they’re pretty solid – the defense and PK has kept them in many games thus far.  What’s killing them is not being aggressive enough in the offensive zone and lack of PP opportunities (aren’t they like next to worst nationally in PP minutes?).  Those two go hand in hand – if you’re not aggressive in the offensive zone you’re not going to draw those “clutch and grab”  type interference penalties, etc.

        • Not for a second would I say that Bemidji has a deeper team than UNO, but they do play with more fire.  Why can no one remember that BSU has UNO’s number for some reason?  3 points this weekend out of their building and undefeated in the same building the last six games.  By the way “guest” – six goals from BSU on Saturday night, all from different skaters.

How about that Wisconsin sweep??? :)

    • Bemidji Actually is 18 on the Power Play and 17 on Penalty Kill not even close to worst , they do however have second to worst in Penalty Minutes

  3. The DU vs CC series is always awesome games. If Howe does not start in goal this weekend i see CC in a sweep. Look at the games this year and who was the goaltenders….

  7. Disappointing showing by St. Cloud this past weekend. North Dakota is a little better than I thought but lots of sloppy play Friday night by the Huskies.

    • Where were you Saturday, after the tie? Good call that SCSU would score in double digits this weekend. Don’t fake your disappointment, you are totally transparent.

  8. How on Earth does Denver still earn 8 first place votes? I can think of three teams more deserving. And yeah, yeah, yeah to the guy who’ll comment that polls are meaningless.

    • Which three teams? Notre Dame team that DU tied and beat at South Bend, and has weaker schedule than ANY team in the NCHC. Clarkson who has played the 20th SOS, or Cornell with the 31st SOS. Denver tied twice this week to CC, who has played the 9th strongest schedule. Denver has played the strongest schedule (Krach), by far. Every one of the eight NCHC teams is in the top nine in SOS. Which one of the non-NCHC creampuffs are more deserving?

      • Hold on, you’re supposed to say the poll doesn’t matter. My beef is the fact Denver has won a little more than half their games. Tough schedule, sure, CC is a powerhouse.

    • Totally agree. Especially when looking at the winning streaks that Notre Dame and Clarkson are on. According to Paula and Jim a few weeks back in TMQ, the media polls are supposed to show “how teams are trending” or something like that. The Irish are hands down the hottest team in the nation right now, with St. Cloud a solid second and, due to a weaker schedule, Clarkson third. Denver hasn’t even hit 10 wins yet – the Irish are already at 16 – so they are 4th at best.

      • Holy crap, really? If wins were the only test of how good a team is, I have a question for you. There is only one team that has won at least 20 games a year since 2001, what team is that? Here’s a hint, it is not WMU.

        • No, it’s not. And whatever happened 2001-last April is irrelevant for this year.

The pairwise is the only real poll that matters, of course. That’s the ranking I always give when people ask me “how’s so-and-so ranked?” But as far as the media poll goes, the primary purpose for that is to attract people who aren’t hardcore fans like us.

For that one, there’s some sort of unwritten policy amongst the voters which says if you keep winning, you move up regardless of strength of schedule. That’s how Penn State reached #1 last year for all of two weeks, by consistently sweeping a bunch of cupcakes and therefore moving up, even though the top team before them (Denver?) split with another ranked team, I believe. That’s also how Mankato is as high as they are right now, even though their most acclaimed victory is a road sweep of BU, a presently sub-.500 club.

Believe me, I expect Denver to reach St. Paul this year, but in keeping with this trend policy that the media poll is supposed to do, Denver should have dropped to #4, especially since CC wasn’t even ranked in this poll. They’ve also dropped to #4 in the pairwise as well, underneath the three teams I mentioned above.

          • Before this weekend CC was ranked #16 in the PWR, while the team Irish beat (Wisconsin) was ranked 23rd. You are the one that mentioned, “Denver hasn’t even hit 10 wins yet – the Irish are already at 16 – so they are 4th at best.”, not me. I was just stating that if wins is a part of your criteria, DU has been one of the steadiest since 2001.
PS- Apparently there is no “unwritten policy” in this poll, since SCSU is #1, not Notre Dame.
