Vermont alum Thomas bringing Stanley Cup to Burlington on Sept. 3

Boston Bruins goalie and former Vermont Catamounts’ star Tim Thomas announced Wednesday that he will be bringing the Stanley Cup to Burlington, Vt., for a public viewing event on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011.

Thomas was awarded a second date with the Cup and choose to bring it to Burlington, where he also runs a summer hockey program that sells out yearly.

The Davison, Mich., native had a four-year career with the Catamounts (1993-1997), compiling a school record 81 career wins and helped Vermont make back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament and the school’s first trip to the Frozen Four in 1996.

Thomas led the Bruins to the Stanley Cup championship in June, behind a 37-save effort in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals over the Vancouver Canucks and became the first goalie in NHL history to win a Game 7 with a shutout on the road.

Further details regarding the Cup visit will be released by request as they become available, but in the meantime, interested parties are asked to email Brian Kane at [email protected] with any further questions.
