DeKeyser announces return to Western Michigan for ’12-13

According to a tweet and a report on mlive.com, Western Michigan sophomore defenseman Dan DeKeyser will be back in a Broncos’ uniform for the 2012-13 season.

DeKeyser, an NHL free agent, is reportedly on the radar of all 30 NHL teams, including the Detroit Red Wings.

“I talked to his representatives over the weekend,” Detroit assistant GM Jim Nill told mlive.com Monday afternoon. “They’ll sit down with him over the next few days and decide what direction they’re going.

“Probably every team is talking to him, asking him to turn pro. It’s a tough decision. He’s only played two years of college. I know education is important to him. Whatever decision he makes will be the right one.”

DeKeyser played the 2010-11 season in Kalamazoo under coach Jeff Blashill, now a Red Wings’ assistant.

“He loves the Detroit Red Wings, but he might like another team, too,” Nill added.

DeKeyser has posted identical five-goal, 17-point seasons the past two years for the Broncos.
