Denver assistant Lalonde leaves for USHL head coach gig

Denver assistant coach Derek Lalonde has been named the new head coach and general manager of the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers.

Lalonde spent the past five seasons at DU and prior to that was an assistant at Ferris State for four years.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be coming to the Green Bay Gamblers,” Lalonde said in a press release. “It’s an awesome opportunity to have my first head coaching job with a great organization like the Gamblers. I’m very grateful to George Gwozdecky and Steve Miller and the University of Denver for five great years and the opportunity to grow as a coach. It’s very tough to walk away from this year’s DU team because there is a lot of talent and special character on this team and the Pioneers are primed for a very special season”

Lalonde was a goaltender at Cortland State from 1990-1995.
