MCHA picks: Jan. 4

This is the last weekend of “light” action before going full throttle into the second half of the season, which sees only three nonconference games in the last six weekends of play. Before I get ahead of myself with conference action, let’s get past this final weekend of nonconference tilts.
Last weekend, I went 2-2-0 (.500) with nonconference picks. That brings my season record to 33-24-2 (.559).
Adrian and Lawrence were the only two teams playing last weekend. The Bulldogs had a 7-4 loss last Friday, their first of the season, against Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Lawrence earned its way to the championship game of the Oswego Hockey Classic, beating Castleton State, 2-1, before falling, 7-2, to Oswego in the championship game.
This weekend sees a single game for the Bulldogs, as they take on a D-I opponent. Finlandia will be taking on two Massachusetts schools in the Wisconsin-Superior Holiday Tournament.
Friday- Saturday, January 4-5
Adrian at Alabama-Huntsville
Adrian (10-1-0) will be making the long trip down to Huntsville, Ala., to take on a Division I opponent this weekend. The Chargers do not currently belong to a conference, and hold a 3-16-1 record on the season, with two of their wins coming from home victories against Finlandia. The Bulldogs are atop of the nation’s goal scoring, averaging 5.82 goals per game. I think the Bulldogs offense is too strong to be shut down this weekend. Adrian 4-1
Finlandia vs. Curry, Finlandia vs. Nichols
Finlandia (3-8-0) will be taking on ECAC Northeast squads this weekend in the Wisconsin- Superior Holiday Tournament, first facing Curry (5-5-1) on Friday, before taking on Nichols (8-4-0) on Saturday. Finlandia hasn’t played since dropping two games to Alabama-Huntsville Dec. 7-8. I have a conference bias when it comes to these tournaments, which has negatively affected my pick percentage, but I’m still going MCHA again for this weekend. Finlandia 3-2, 2-1
