Notre Dame captain Lee bolts to join Islanders

The New York Islanders announced Monday that they have signed Notre Dame junior captainAnders Lee to a two-year, entry-level contract.

Lee led the CCHA in goals (20) and points (38) this season and will join the Islanders immediately. He could make his NHL debut as early as Tuesday night against the Winnipeg Jets.

He led Notre Dame in goals during each of his three seasons in South Bend, totaling 116 points (61 goals, 55 assists) in 124 career games. Lee served as an alternate captain as a sophomore and was named the lone captain this year.

“I love this university, my teammates, the coaching staff and everyone with the program who helped me get this opportunity,” Lee said in a Notre Dame news release. “I’ve been blessed and am so thankful to have had the opportunity to play at Notre Dame.”

The Islanders originally selected Lee in the sixth round (152nd overall) of the 2009 NHL draft.
