Michigan’s Downing suspended two games, Porikos one game by Big Ten

The Big Ten announced Monday that Michigan’s Michael Downing and Niko Porikos have each been suspended as a result of separate incidents that occurred in the Wolverines’ game against Minnesota on Dec. 12.

Downing has been suspended for two games after an incident that occurred near the 12:12 mark of the second period and resulted in the player receiving a major penalty for contact to the head and a game misconduct. Downing is ineligible to play in Michigan’s next two games at the Great Lakes Invitational, scheduled for Dec. 29-30.

Porikos has been suspended for one game after an incident that occurred near the 3:20 mark of the third period and resulted in the player receiving a minor penalty for indirect contact to the head – elbowing. Porikos is ineligible to play in Michigan’s Dec. 29 game at the GLI against Northern Michigan.
