ECAC Northeast and MASCAC Weekend Preview: Dec. 3

A perfect 6-0 midweek record pushed my overall picks mark to 31-18, by far the best it has been all season.   Here’s what is set to go on this weekend.

Saturday, 12/4

Westfield State at Salem State

A matchup of teams on the opposite end of the spectrum in the early going. Both were expected to be competitors in the MASCAC, and while Salem State is a point out of first with a 3-1-1 league record,  the Owls are 1-2 with a 1-5-1 record overall.  Look for Salem State to keep up their hot start. Salem State 5, Westfield State 3

Stonehill at UMass Dartmouth

After holding off a feisty Worcester State squad Thursday night, the Corsairs are now alone atop the MASCAC. They’ll step out of conference this weekend for a matchup with NE-10 opponent Stonehill.  The result won’t have any impact on the MASCAC standings, but I see UMD coming up with the win. UMass Dartmouth 4, Stonehill 1

Fitchburg State at Worcester State

The Lancers have been competitive thus far, but I see Fitchburg coming out on top. Fitchburg State 4, Worcester State 3

Plymouth State at Framingham State

Neither one of these teams has a conference win, but Plymouth State is 2-1-2 overall while Framingham State checks in at 0-6. Look for the Panthers to get their first MASCAC win out of the way. Plymouth State 5, Framingham State 2

Salve Regina at Western New England

Like Framingham State in the MASCAC, Salve Regina is still looking for it’s first ECAC Northeast and overall win. The Golden Bears have seen their overall record drop to 3-3-1, but have played quality opponents during their three game skid. They’ll try and snap that against the Seahawks.  Western New England 4, Salve Regina 2

Curry at Nichols

Great matchup between what should be two of the conference’s top teams throughout the year. Neither team is off to  a great start in conference play (Curry is 1-1-1, while Nichols is 1-2). Should be a good one, but I see Nichols coming out on top in overtime.  Nichols 5, Curry 4 (OT)

Sunday, 12/5

Wentworth at Suffolk

Wentworth, last year’s regular season champion, has quietly put together a three game unbeaten streak while finding itself only a point behind Becker for first place. Suffolk on the other hand, has lost three in a row. Look for the Leopards to emerge victorious in the cross town matchup. Wentworth 4, Suffolk 3

Westfield State at Western New England: Two Springfield area teams will meet at the Mass Mutual Center for the  third Falcon’s Cup, which consists of the  Owls-Golden Bears at noon, followed by AHL action with the Springfield Falcons hosting the Norfolk Admirals. Westfield State has won the two previous cups, but  WNEC already holds a wild 6-5 OT win over the Owls earlier in the year. Tough call, but I think Westfield State will pull even in the season series. Westfield State 6, Western New England 4

Johnson & Wales at Salve Regina: JWU is another of several teams in the ECAC Northeast that will be competing for home ice in the conference playoffs. Look for them to bank two points against the Seahawks. Johnson & Wales 5, Salve Regina 2
