Atlantic Hockey Picks Jan. 13-15

Last Week: 9-2-2
On the Season: 107-39-17 (.709)

This Week’s Picks:

Friday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 14
Army at Niagara – The Purple Eagles return to the friendly confines for the first time since Nov. 15, a span of 11 games. It’s Army’s first trip to Dwyer Arena since 2001. I think the Purple Eagles celebrate their homecoming with a sweep. Niagara 3, Army 2; Niagara 2, Army 1

Holy Cross at Robert Morris – Holy Cross brings its 10th ranked (nationally) power play to match up against RMU’s top-ranked penalty kill. I’m thinking that they’ll cancel each other out and we’ll have a split. Robert Morris 4, Holy Cross 3; Holy Cross 3, Robert Morris 2.

Mercyhurst at American International – The Yellow Jackets swept the Lakers last season in Erie, and I think Mercyhurst returns the favor in Springfield. Mercyhurst 4, AIC 1; Mercyhurst 5, AIC 3.

Bentley at Air Force – The Bentley Falcons have taken at least one point every weekend of conference play so far this season, but the Air Force Falcons are undefeated at home. I’m picking the home team to break Bentley’s streak. Air Force 4, Bentley 3; Air Force 3, Bentley 1.

Saturday, Jan. 14 and Sunday, Jan. 15
Rochester Institute of Technology at Sacred Heart – The Pioneers have the edge offensively, scoring 2.46 goals per game to the Tigers’ 2.38. But the big difference is in the teams’ defensive prowess. RIT is allowing 2.08 goals per game while Sacred Heart is allowing a whopping 5.31. It would be easy to pick a pair of 5-2 games, but I think they’ll be closer than that. RIT 3, Sacred Heart 1; RIT 4, Sacred Heart 3.

Connecticut at Canisius – The Golden Griffins are 4-0-1 in their last five meetings with UConn in Buffalo, but I think the Huskies will earn a split here in what should be a close series. Canisius 4, UConn 3; UConn 2, Canisius 1.
