The Huskies are on a hot streak

Three things I learned from Atlantic Hockey this weekend:

Connecticut is the hottest team in the league right now. The Huskies are 5-1 since the holiday break, and a perfect 5-0 in league play. This past weekend UConn won a pair of road game at Canisius, 6-2 and 4-3. On Saturday, UConn got goals from six different players while on Sunday, Cole Schneider got the tying goal midway through the third period and the game winner with 2:16 to play.

The east “pod” again played the west to a near-draw this weekend. The west had dominated the inter-pod matchups before the holidays, but since then the east has had it fare share of big wins, including Bentley taking three points at Air Force this past weekend, handing the (Air Force) Falcons their first defeat at home.

Sacred Heart has nowhere to go but up. This weekend could be a turning point for the Pioneers, if they can build off a good effort on Sunday. On Saturday Sacred Heart was dominated by Rochester Institute of Technology 10-0. Sunday’s game was another loss to the Tigers, this time 3-0, but it was a much better game. The Pioneers have the talent (especially up front) to win some games, and they will if they play like they did on Sunday.
