Los Angeles inks North Dakota blueliner Forbort

North Dakota junior defenseman Derek Forbort has given up his final year of eligibility and agreed to a three-year entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

The Kings selected Forbort in the first round (15th overall) in the 2010 NHL draft.

Forbort recorded six goals and 39 assists in 115 career games at North Dakota and had a plus-minus rating of plus-33. In 2012-13, he played in all 42 games and tallied four goals and 17 points.

Forbort also represented the United States at the 2011 and 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships, helping the U.S. win bronze in 2011.
