Merrimack sophomores Foget, Spaxman leave team, Dennehy ‘disappointed’

Merrimack sophomore forward Mathieu Foget and sophomore defenseman Ethan Spaxman will not be returning to the team for the second half of the 2016-17 season.

A school-issued press release Tuesday evening stated “head coach Mark Dennehy and his staff were informed separately” by the two players.

“Obviously we were disappointed by both players’ decisions, but respect them and wish them all the best in their future endeavors,” Dennehy said in a statement. “Our attention now turns to our team as we prepare for our next opponent.”

Foget tallied a goal and four points in 13 games this season, while Spaxman posted a goal and four points in 14 games.

Merrimack begins its second-half schedule at the Florida College Hockey Classic on Wednesday against Colorado College.
