ECAC Hockey picks: Jan. 13 – 17

Last time: 4-2

Overall: 43-33-2

Friday, Jan. 13

St. Lawrence at Brown

The Bears have picked up their scoring over the last few games, but keeping other teams off the board remains an issue. Brown’s .856 combined save percentage won’t cut it against a Saints team that averages more than three goals per game. St. Lawrence wins

Cornell at Princeton

The Tigers have lost three in a row following a five-game winning streak, while Cornell looks poised to avoid the second-half slump that plagued it last season. Cornell wins.

Colgate at Quinnipiac

Quinnipiac hasn’t been its typical dominant self this season, but a young Colgate team has failed to get much going so far. Quinnipiac wins

Harvard at Rensselaer

The Crimson beat RPI 5-1 at the end of December. Since then, Harvard has continued to look like the team to beat in ECAC Hockey, while RPI has on the wrong end of a string of blowout losses since then. Harvard wins

Dartmouth at Union

With its secondary scoring starting to click, Union is looking dangerous over the remaining weeks left in the regular season. I’m just sure if the Big Green have the scoring depth to keep up with the Dutchmen. Union wins

Clarkson at Yale

These teams have tied in both of their previous meetings, including a non-conference matchup in the Shilalegh Tournament, but I think Clarkson will end the regular-season series with a win. Clarkson wins

 Saturday, Jan. 14

Clarkson at Brown

Even with Brown’s increased offensive production of late, I think the Golden Knights will head home with a road sweep. Clarkson wins

Colgate at Princeton

The Tigers have cooled a bit since the end of the first half, but Colgate only has one win since mid-November. Princeton wins

Cornell at Quinnipiac

This is an important game for the Bobcats, as a win would give them a regular season sweep of the Big Red. But with Quinnipiac’s inconsistent play of late, I’m not sure that happens. Cornell wins

Dartmouth at Rensselaer

Both teams are young and inexperienced, but Dartmouth has show signs of being a respectable team at points throughout the season. Dartmouth wins

Harvard at Union

The Dutchmen are one of the top teams in the league, but I think the Crimson are above everybody else at this point. Harvard wins

St. Lawrence at Yale

Amidst its defensive struggles, Yale’s offense has been pretty solid this year, but St. Lawrence has been good on both ends of the ice. St. Lawrence wins

Tuesday, Jan.17

Harvard at Dartmouth

The Crimson are currently the best team in the league, and it’s hard to pick against them until they give me a reason to. Harvard wins
