Former NCAA player, ‘Miracle’ actor Mantenuto passes away at 35

mantenutoFormer Disney actor Michael Mantenuto has died at the age of 35.

TMZ reports that Mantenuto committed suicide by shooting himself. He was found dead by police in Des Moines, Wash.

Mantenuto, a former Maine (2000-01) and UMass Boston (2001-02) player, earned a role in Disney’s 2004 movie “Miracle” about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, playing Boston University defenseman Jack O’Callahan.

After acting in a few other movies, Mantenuto enlisted in the military.

Col. Guillaume Beaurpere, the commander of Mantenuto’s army unit, broke the news about his passing.

Mantenuto, a native of Holliston, Mass., is survived by his wife, the former Kati Vienneau, a daughter, Ava, a son, Leo, his father, Ed, and three sisters.
