Women’s D-III weekend picks Feb. 8: Important NESCAC and WIAC matchups

New England College versus Suffolk
This game is important for Suffolk to remain second in the NEHC standings. Suffolk’s goals per game, 2.78, should be enough for the Rams to beat New England College. The Pilgrims have been struggling all year, and unfortunately, I don’t seem them beating Suffolk. Suffolk 3-1

Canton versus Endicott
Endicott needs to win both games against Canton to stay in the fight for the CHC regular season title. The Gulls are more than capable of winning, as their team statistics look better than Canton’s. However, Canton has some notable wins this season that lead me to think this game could be close. Endicott 2-1

Friday-Saturday, Feb. 8-9

Concordia (Minn.) versus Gustavus Adolphus
Concordia has an extremely tough end to their schedule. They recently faced St. Thomas and Hamline, and now the Cobbers will face Gustavus Adolphus. Concordia held St. Thomas to a tie and Hamline to just a 2-1 game. This team could most certainly upset Gustavus this weekend and split the series. Gustavus Adolphus 5-1, Concordia (Minn.) 2-1

Northland versus Trine
If Northland wants a shot at the NCHA playoffs, they must beat Trine. Northland borders the six teams that make up the conference tournament. Trine has upset Lake Forest and almost beat Adrian this year; therefore, Northland will have their work cut out for them this weekend. These teams strike me to be very similar, which makes me guess they will split over the weekend. Northland 4-3, Trine 3-0

Colby versus No. 8 Middlebury
Middlebury has been upset twice now by conference opponents. Colby is more than capable of delivering Middlebury another loss. However, home ice advantage could play a role in this series, giving Middlebury the upper hand in that respect. I don’t see Middlebury getting upset. Tie 2-2, Middlebury 4-0

Saturday, Feb. 9

No. 4 Wisconsin-River Falls versus No. 9 Wisconsin-Eau Claire
The most anticipated match up of the WIAC is back, and it will be played at Wisconsin-River Falls’s hone rink. The Falcons looked strong in their game against number one St. Thomas. They proved they have the power to put points on the board, and I think it will be too much for the Blugolds to handle. Wisconsin-River Falls 4-1
