Marian University Adds Women’s Hockey

Marian University announced the addition of women’s hockey to its existing Division III athletic programs, to commence play in the fall of 2009.

The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) accepted Marian this week, bringing the school’s total to 15 varsity programs. The NCHA women’s division’s first year of competition was the 2000-2001 season, and is currently comprised of Concordia University-Wisconsin, Finlandia University, Lake Forest College, Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Wisconsin-River Falls, Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and Wisconsin-Superior. Marian University will bring the league’s membership to eight teams. All NCHA schools compete at the Division III level.

Wisconsin’s sixth D-III women’s program — the nation’s 48th — will join Marian’s men’s program at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac for games and practice.
