Clarkson tabs Jones as new head coach

Clarkson has named Casey Jones its new head coach after an extensive national search.

Jones, associate head coach and Cornell alumnus, previously served as an assistant coach at Clarkson from 1993-1995.

“Jones brings a high energy-style to the Golden Knights that matches the enthusiasm of Clarkson fans and our commitment to great hockey in the North Country,” said Clarkson athletic director Steve Yianoukos in a statement. “Jones is known for his deep understanding and grasp of the game that motivates and challenges players. We look forward to the Jones era for the Golden Knights.”

During the last three years at Cornell, Jones helped the team return to the NCAA tournament twice and the ECAC championships each year. Jones spent 13 years at Ohio State as associate head coach for the Buckeyes before taking the associate head coach position at Cornell. He also served two years as an assistant coach at Cornell after graduation.

In honor of hiring Jones, the Clarkson University Bookstore in downtown Potsdam and the new Spirit Store in Cheel Arena have made May 23-27 a “Show Your Clarkson Spirit Week” with 25 percent off all Clarkson emblem clothing.
