Boston College goaltender Thatcher Demko underwent hip surgery in the offseason and may not be ready to play when the season opens on Oct. 3.

At Monday’s Hockey East media day, Eagles coach Jerry York said Demko, a junior who was a second-round NHL draft pick of the Vancouver Canucks in 2014, had both hips operated on.

Demko was selected to the Hockey East media preseason all-conference team after a sophomore season where he posted a 2.19 GAA and .925 save percentage with a 19-13-3 record.

The Eagles play an exhibition game against New Brunswick on Oct. 3 before opening the regular season at Army West Point on Oct. 9.
