Pickin’ the Big Ten: Dec. 18

There is one game this weekend, a Sunday matinee between Northeastern and Michigan State. First, a look at how Drew Claussen and I have done through most of the first half of the season.

Last week

Drew: 2-2-0 (.500)
Paula: 3-1-0 (.750)

Season

Drew: 42-29-10 (.580)
Paula: 44-27-10 (.605)

This week

This single game is Sunday in Munn Ice Arena at 3:05 p.m. It is not televised.

Northeastern at Michigan State

Drew: I could see this one going either way. Northeastern has had better offensive and defensive production this season, but neither team really jumps out at you. I’ll pick the Spartans to rebound from last weekend and end the season on a high note with a close win.

Paula: The Huskies’ last two games were Tuesday night losses to Boston College. On Nov. 29, Northeastern lost to BC at home, 2-1, and then posted a 5-3 loss to the Eagles on the road Dec. 6. In their last 10 games, the Huskies are 2-6-2. These teams last met Dec. 19, 2015, a 2-1 Northeastern win. It was the first meeting between the squads in 19 seasons, and the Huskies are making their first trip to Munn Ice Arena since Oct. 1983.

Drew’s pick: Michigan State 3-2.
Paula’s pick: Michigan State 3-2.

Happy holidays!

USCHO will preview and cover the holiday tournaments, but the coming week will be pretty quiet. Here’s to a sane, peaceful ending to 2016. See you at the Great Lakes Invitational Tournament!
