Merrimack to honor Global War on Terror veteran prior to game Jan. 7 against Cornell

Merrimack will honor a veteran of the Global War on Terror, and father of a current Merrimack student, at Saturday night’s home game against Cornell.

Navy Reserve Lt. Cmdr. Robert Dunne of Peabody, Mass., will be recognized in a brief ceremony at center ice Jan. 7 at Lawler Rink. His daughter Sarah, a Merrimack junior, will sing the national anthem.

Lt. Cmdr. Dunne, a graduate of the Naval War College, has served on active duty in Afghanistan and Iraq, and is currently with the Combined Joint Task Force, Horn of Africa, based in Djibouti.

Holder of the Defense Meritorious Service Award, Navy Commendation Medal and Iraq and Afghan campaign medals, he is chair of the Peabody Veterans Council.
