Hockey East picks – Mar. 16-17

Finding himself behind by two games, Jim had to gamble on underdogs and fell two more behind. I now lead by four games with three remaining.

I like my chances.

Dave last week: 8-0-0
Jim last week: 6-2-0
Dave’s record-to-date: 144-83-26
Jim’s record-to-date: 140-87-26

Here are this week’s picks:

Friday, Mar. 16

#1 Boston College vs. #4 Boston University (5 p.m. semifinal)
Dave’s pick: I’d almost be surprised if this game doesn’t go to overtime, but I do think BC prevails and ends BU’s season.
BC 2, BU 1 (OT)
Jim’s pick: Not to pick against Dave to pick against him, but I’m all BU here.
BU 3, BC 2

#2 Northeastern vs. #3 Providence (8 p.m. semifinal)
Dave’s pick: As I said in my column, the four semifinalists are all remarkably well-matched except for Northeastern’s offensive firepower. No team can match that first line, and when a team is the clear first offensively in the league and also first defensively, it’s the team to beat.
NU 4, PC 3
Jim’s pick: Northeastern has just too much fire power, no matter the opponent.
NU 5, PC 3

Saturday, Mar. 17

Championship game, 7 p.m.

BU/BC vs. NU/PC
Dave’s pick: I’ll pick for all possibilities, just in case, but I expect Northeastern to win its second title in the last three years.
NU 3, BC 2; NU 4, BU 2; PC 2, BC 1 (OT); PC 3, BU 2
Jim’s pick: Here come the HUSKIES.
NU 5, BC 2; NU 5 BC 3; PC 3, BC 2; BU 3, PC 2
