Calm Before the Storm

We’re about two hours away from dropping the puck on the final game of the 2005-2006 season. We at USCHO are at 41 stories and counting so far this week, with much more to come.

  1. Not wanting to appear ignorant, but I must ask why you still call the WCHA tournament the “final five”.   You have 12 teams now, so in the first round six teams were eliminated.  The remaining six all went to the Excel Center to face off. Today two of the six will be eliminated, tomorrow two more will be gone, and on Saturday
the final two will play.  Now I know it used to be that with a ten team WCHA league,
the first round left five teams remaining – so, you had a “play in ” game with seeds 4 and 5 competing to join seeds 1 thru 3.  This was indeed a final 5 playoff. Since it isn’t that way any longer – why call it the final five??  Just asking.
