Monday Wrap-Up 10/30

This will be a regular thing – looking back on the weekend’s action.

A couple of interesting scores and interesting turnarounds in weekend series:

  • MSOE put up a shockingly crooked number on Lake Forest on Friday, bombing the Foresters 9-0, including a hat-trick from junior Blair Hanberg. But the next night, Lake Forest goalie Scott Campbell made 44 saves to help his squad rebound for a 4-3 win.
  • In Geneseo, Neumann won Friday’s battle of the Knights with a 6-2 win, but Geneseo turned things around on Saturday, winning 5-3.

A few teams that are off to good starts:

  • Fredonia – Pounded Marian 8-2 and tied St. Norbert 2-2. Will that be enough to get the Blue Devils into the Top 15?
  • Wisconsin-Eau Claire – Opened with a 3-2 win over Wisconsin-River Falls, mostly thanks to 42 saves from Ryan Mensing.
  • Oswego – Is already 4-0 including a weekend sweep of fourth-ranked Elmira.
  • Plattsburgh – Beat travel partner Potsdam 7-1 and played a competitive game against the US Under-18 team.
  • Cortland – The Red Dragons are 3-0. They won four games all last season.

And some teams that are not:

  • Marian – Not a good trip to Western New York.
  • Potsdam – An 0-4 start, outscored 22-7.

Later this week; The Bowling Green coaching mafia, polls & coaches, and MCHA teams multiplying like bunnies.

    • Snowing now, should get only 2″ in Parker and the Springs. Tomorrow morning coldest of the year. Should be sunny but chilly when you get in. 45-50 Friday, 57-60 Saturday in Springs. Low in 30’s in mornings. Dress warm.

      • We are going to swing up to RMNP when we get in…..supposed to be about 25 or so when we get up to Estes. Ouch. I remember it being a lot warmer in October when we lived in CO.

        • Still hit and miss. Like you said before, supposed to be 70 Sunday. Hit Garden of the Gods or Manitou Springs Saturday. Close by and worth seeing. I will look for you on NCHC.TV tomorrow night. :-)

          • Been to both of those places, good spots. Was thinking of going up through Woodland Park to Florrisant Fossil Beds. Not sure what we’ll do Saturday. For some odd reason, CC is starting a lot of their Saturday games at 6 pm, so that will be different.

          • For some reason, teams here are doing strange start times. We now start our Friday games at 7:00, instead of 7:30 like all the previous years. I don’t know why these changes but it has made it harder for anyone taking I-25 to the games.

          • I25 can be brutal at almost anytime. At least it felt that way on the north side coming from Fort Collins.

          • Crisp out here this morning. Got in just before sunrise, definitely miss seeing the view of the mountains every morning.

          • Fantastic scenery. Took Sioux two periods to adjust to large ice, out of positon in first two. Don’t mind taking that penalty with 2 minutes left, had to be aggressive. Hurt when linesman made that mistake on icing at the end.

          • Not sure if it was adjusting to large ice or they just flat sucked the first two periods. I thought a couple of the calls where not that great, especially the weak holding calls. Last one was definitely a trip. But that icing call when we were shorthanded was ridiculous.

          • And it wasn’t even Anderson’s crew. Did you sit on the ND offensive zone for two periods? I expect a different game tonight. Forgot, DU game on ESPN3 tonight.

          • Yeah, we sat behind the CC net. We have sucked so far on Friday games. 5 goals on 4 Friday games. Saturday is something like 12 goals in 3 games so far.

          • I’ll be the guy wearing green on the online broadcast! Just look for the guy that looks crabby because the kids are interrupting the game……
