Hockey East picks: Weekend of Oct. 15-17

This Week’s Picks

Hey folks. Beginning this week, both Dave and I will be making our weekly picks in the Hockey East blog. Every week, we will both make the selections for the upcoming games, meaning I can kick Dave’s butt fair and square this season.

Friday, Oct. 15

Rensselaer at Northeastern

Dave’s Pick: The Huskies get off the schneid.
NU 2, RPI 1

Jim’s Pick: Huskies can’t slow down Polacek.
RPI 4, NU 2

Massachusetts-Lowell at Niagara

Dave’s Pick: After a tough trip to Alfond last weekend, the River Hawks have a much easier road trip this time.
Lowell 4, Niagara 2

Jim’s Pick: The battle of mentor and student goes to the mentor.
Lowell 5, Niagara 3

Providence at Minnesota-Duluth

Dave’s Pick: The Friars got off to a nice start against Northeastern, but Duluth brings them back to .500.
Duluth 3, PC 1

Jim’s Pick: Very difficult test for the Friars. Not sure they’re up for it.
Duluth 5, PC 2

Maine at Michigan State

Dave’s Pick: The Black Bears offensive juggernaut keeps rolling.
Maine 4, Michigan State 3

Jim’s Pick: Agree with Dave here. This is one offensive machine.
Maine 5, Michigan State 3

Boston College at Denver

Dave’s Pick: The Eagles squeak out the win in this Clash of the Titans.
BC 3, Denver 2

Jim’s Pick: Incredible early season series. Home ice is enough for Denver in game one.
Denver 3, BC 2

Saturday, Oct. 16

Massachusetts at Boston University

Dave’s Pick: The Terriers win this battle of two very young teams.
BU 4, UMass 2

Jim’s Pick: BU keeps rolling after an impressive Ice Breaker
BU 5, UMass 2

Michigan at New Hampshire

Dave’s Pick: The Wolverines come out on top in this shootout.
Michigan 5, UNH 4

Jim’s Pick: Another marquee matchup. Home ice not enough for the Wildcats.
Michigan 4, UNH 2

Connecticut at Merrimack

Dave’s Pick: The Warriors get into the win column, a place they’ll spend a lot of time this year.
Merrimack 4, UConn 2

Jim’s Pick: Home ice continues to be a comfort for the Warriors.
Merrimack 6, UConn 3

Massachusetts-Lowell at RIT

Dave’s Pick: RIT may have come back to Earth a bit from its magical postseason, but Lowell’s losses went even deeper.
RIT 4 Lowell 3

Jim’s Pick: Not too long ago, Lowell losing this would be the upset. I’m picking Lowell to win and THAT is the upset.
Lowell 3, RIT 1

Boston College at Denver

Dave’s Pick: On paper this should be a split, but I’m going with the Eagles anyway.
BC 2 Denver 1

Jim’s Pick: BC gets one back in the series finale.
BC 3, Denver 1

Providence at Minnesota-Duluth

Dave’s Pick: Duluth sweeps.
Duluth 3 PC 1

Jim’s Pick: Agreed. Duluth sweeps.
Duluth 5, PC 2
