Northern Michigan players appear in court on bike theft charges

Four Northern Michigan players pleaded no contest Tuesday to misdemeanors of receiving and concealing stolen property under $200, related to alleged campus bicycle thefts that occurred in September, according to a report Tuesday in the Mining Journal.

Freshmen Mitchell Jones, Jake Baker and D.J. Vandercook and sophomore Stephan Vigier are scheduled for sentencing in February. If charged, the players could face up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine. All four students are expected to get sentence delays, which means if they abide by terms of a probationary period, the charges will be dropped and they will have no record of the offense.

Charges against three other students affiliated with the team, including NMU freshmen Dylan Walchuk and Eric Walker, have been dismissed. Walker is no longer listed on the team roster and Aynsley is not a member of the team.
