NCHC picks: Dec. 18

Thanks to Western Michigan, I put a little more distance between Matthew and I, as I went 4-2 last week and he went 3-3 (.500). On the year, I am 64-29-8 (.673), while Matthew is 59-34-8 (.623). We have light action this week, so let’s get to it.

Friday-Saturday, Dec. 18-19

Colorado College at Alabama-Huntsville
Candace: The Chargers haven’t won since October, but they’ve been close. On the other hand, this weekend might be the only time CC wins on the road all year. Colorado College 2-1, 2-1
Matthew: UAH hasn’t won any of its last 10 games, so they’re probably due. I’m going to take the league homer route, though, and pick CC to sweep. Colorado College 3-2, 3-2

Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 19-20

Arizona State at Omaha
Candace: Like Matthew, I don’t see Arizona State as a major threat to the Mavericks at this point in their transition to D-I, and  I doubt the dreaded Red Army does either. Could be a trap, but doubtful. Omaha 4-1, 5-1
Matthew: Tough to see anything other than a sweep for UNO here. Good news for them if they get it: They’d remain undefeated at home and finish their non-conference slate with a perfect record. Omaha 4-1, 4-1

  1. Can someone tell me what is up with all the different game times? There has not been many normal weekends for the gophers 7pm Friday and Saturday games.

  3. The MSU – U18 game was 2-0 until the st two minutes. MSU Sandwiched 2 ENG’s around a U-18 goal. Have to play better. This weekend better be a better performance. PSU is going to bring it.

Shane: It’s a matchup between the bottom two teams in the NCHC and WCHA. Each has just three wins. The Chargers are on a 10-game winless streak, but I thought they showed some promise at times last weekend in Mankato against Minnesota State. The have good goaltending, a legit first line and coach Mike Corbett has them playing hard. They’ve probably deserved better on this tough stretch. The Tigers started the season with 13 losses in a row, and they give up a lot of goals. I think Huntsville does its conference proud this weekend. Chargers 3-1, 4-2

Jack: Today Brad Schlossman Tweeted out a fun fact: CC is 3-38-2 on the road since 2013-14. That’s bad. Heck, even Huntsville has a better record since then. The Chargers are 7-40-4 in that same span. (They’ve been 6-25-3 at home since then, too). UAH has just one win at home this season and is winless since Halloween, but they’ve been playing pretty good hockey despite not getting the victories. I agree that Huntsville gets the sweep here and gives the WCHA a boost against the NCHC. (And if they needed any more motivation: rival Bemidji State is the only other WCHA team to beat an NCHC team this season. I’m sure the Chargers don’t want the Beavers to have any good things to themselves.) Chargers 3-2, 4-3

    • Hey DTP. Looks like Shane and Jack need to go back to writing their “Dining Out” column. They appear to know more about restaurant reviews then they do about hockey.

Out to lunch? Hope you you used their “Dining Out” column on Saturday. Let me guess… I bet you had NACHOs. ;)
