Junior scorer Curran suiting up for Niagara starting second semester

Niagara has added forward Johnny Curran to its roster for the second half of the season.

A former member of the Aurora Tigers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League and the Smiths Falls Bears of the Central Canada Hockey League, Curran joins the Purple Eagles as the tenth freshman on the 28-man roster.

“Johnny is a player that has been on our radar for a while now,” Niagara coach Dave Burkholder said in a news release. “He is a dynamic, fast player and a gifted goal scorer, and he’s a terrific person who takes his schooling very seriously. Adding him to our roster for the second half of the season will have a huge impact on our team.”

After leading the Niagara Falls Canucks in scoring in the 2013-14 season, Curran was called up to Aurora, joining the Tigers for the 2014 postseason. The Niagara Falls, Ont., native picked up three goals and four assists in 16 playoff games.

In his first full season with Aurora in 2014-15, Curran posted 28 goals and 37 assists, giving him a team-leading 65 points in just 52 games. This season, Curran played 22 games with Smiths Falls, posting 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points.
