Weekend picks: Dec. 8

I swear, Miami games are killing me. I correctly picked Denver to sweep Minnesota Duluth, but because I didn’t see the RedHawks splitting with Cornell, I didn’t gain any ground on Matthew. Last week, we both went a very respectable 6-2 (.750). On the year, I am 54-28-10 (.641) while Matthew is 55-27-10 (.652).

Friday-Saturday, Dec. 8-9

Colorado College vs No. 1 Denver (home-and-home)
Candace: Colorado College is better this year, but I think Denver took a huge stride last weekend and will be amped this weekend. Denver 4-1, 4-2
Matthew: I tend to say “home team wins” with home-and-home series, but with CC having tailed off since its good start to the season, I’ll take a Denver sweep. Denver 4-1, 3-2

No. 5 North Dakota at No. 2 St. Cloud State
Candace: This has split all over it. I think North Dakota getting Cam Johnson back is huge. St. Cloud State 3-2, North Dakota 3-2
Matthew: St. Cloud’s rolling right now and is a clear favorite in this series, but I don’t know that I see the Huskies getting a sweep. St. Cloud State 4-2, North Dakota 3-2

No. 17 Minnesota Duluth at Omaha
Candace: This is a tough series to predict. Omaha is at home, so plus for the Mavericks, but I like what Duluth showed last week, even if they lost to Denver twice. I’ll pick a Duluth sweep and hope I get Saturday’s game right. Minnesota Duluth 3-2, 3-2
Matthew: UNO needs to get back on the horse in this series, and I think the Mavericks will get a win. Minnesota Duluth 3-1, Omaha 3-1

Miami at No. 11 Western Michigan
Candace: Still not picking against Western at Lawson. Western Michigan 4-1, 4-2
Matthew: We know better by now than to go against Western at home … don’t we? Western Michigan 3-1, 3-1
