Mercyhurst vs. Robert Morris
Chris: We just have this series to watch this weekend, and it’s a pretty good one. RMU will host on Saturday, and Mercyhurst will host on Sunday. Both teams have been inconsistent so far, making this series a tough one to call. The Lakers have had no more than two consecutive wins so far this season, but also no more than two straight losses. The Colonials have strung together back-to-back wins just once this season, and have lost four in a row, the most consecutive losses since the 2008-2009 season when RMU was a member of College Hockey America. I continue to wonder when will be the weekend the Colonials break out (especially with the Three Rivers Classic tournament looming), and I think they’ll at least end the losing streak. RMU wins on Saturday, Mercyhurst wins Sunday.
Dan: We always like to say how points are always at a premium in Atlantic Hockey, and we do it with a smile because of how much we enjoy the annual competition. This year, though, it seems much more serious because every week seems to thin the margin of error that much more. RMU sits in seventh, tied with Bentley, thanks in no small part to a weekend sweep of AIC. But those are the only two wins in the Colonials’ last eight games. Mercyhurst, meanwhile, seems to avoid being swept every week but hasn’t been able to sustain momentum through both ends of a weekend. As a result, this weekend’s series becomes huge. I don’t think either team should be where they are in the standings, which puts an emphasis on winning this weekend. With that thin margin of error, I’m calling for a split, which inevitably solves nothing. RMU wins on Saturday. Mercyhurst wins on Sunday.
