The Detroit Red Wings have signed Maine junior forward Chase Pearson to a two-year, entry-level contract.

The contract will begin with the 2019-20 season.

Pearson, originally selected by Detroit in the fifth round (140th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft, will sign an amateur tryout contract with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins and will join the Griffins later this week.

Pearson has spent the last three seasons with the Black Bears, serving as captain as a sophomore and junior and totaling 78 points (37 goals, 41 assists), a plus-18 rating and 132 penalty minutes in 107 games.

In 2018-19, Pearson notched a collegiate career-high 29 points (16 goals, 13 assists).
