Picking the WCHA: Jan. 26-27

Last week, we had four WCHA series and all of them were sweeps. (Not only that, but all the sweeps involved a team from the top of of the standings taking six points from the team on the bottom half of the standings.)

This week, the slate is similar: Team from the top half of the standings playing against a team from the bottom half.

Will that same form hold once again this week? Let’s see.

Michigan Tech at Ferris State

Sean: Two teams each trying to reach different tiers in the WCHA standings, Tech trying to claw into the top four. Ferris trying to avoid the bottom two. It’ll be a hard-fought weekend, with Ferris stealing an OT point. Huskies 3-1, Bulldogs 3-2 (OT)

Jack: The Bulldogs have just two victories in their last 10 games. Luckily, one of those wins was against Michigan Tech back in December. I think they’ll do the same again against the Huskies this week and steal three points. Bulldogs 4-2, Huskies 5-2

Bowling Green at Lake Superior State

Sean: Falcons are on a bit of a roll, Lakers are struggling. Feels like a sweep. Falcons 3-0, 4-2

Jack: The chasm between these two teams seems pretty stark. Lake State is in ninth place and are seven points out of the playoffs. Not sure I can see them getting one here. Falcons 4-2, 4-1

Bemidji State at Alabama Huntsville

Sean: These teams have an old history back to their NCAA Division II days, and I think that brings out some extra fire in the Chargers first home game since November. Chargers 4-2, Beavers 2-0

Jack: The Chargers played well in their two-week Alaska trip and had a week to rest and get their legs in shape for the Beavers. I think they can steal one, too. Beavers 3-0, Chargers 3-2

Northern Michigan at Alaska Anchorage

Sean: Never an easy trip, but two teams heading in opposite directions. Wildcats 3-1, 2-1

Jack: Can’t argue with that. I think the Wildcats will score some goals this weekend, too. Wildcats 5-2, 4-2
