NCHC suspends North Dakota’s Kiersted one game for spearing incident against Denver

The NCHC has issued a one-game suspension to North Dakota sophomore defenseman Matt Kiersted stemming from the illegal use of a stick for spearing during UND’s game against Denver Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.

During last night’s game, Kiersted was assessed a major penalty for spearing and given a game misconduct penalty at the end of the game with no time remaining.

Kiersted will be required to serve the one-game suspension during North Dakota’s series finale tonight against Denver in Grand Forks.

He is eligible to return for the Fighting Hawks in their exhibition game on Dec. 29 against the U.S. Under-18 National Team, as well as their next regular-season game on Jan. 4 at Canisius.
