Union women’s assistant Carpenito returns to alma mater as new Northeastern assistant

Northeastern announced the hiring Thursday of Nick Carpenito as an assistant women’s coach.

A 2011 graduate of Northeastern, Carpenito returns to his alma mater after spending time on the coaching staffs at Elmira and Union.

“We would like to welcome Nick back to Huntington Avenue,” Huskies’ head coach David Flint said in a statement. “We had a lot of great candidates, but after the interview process, Nick’s passion for coaching was clear and the only thing that exceeded it was his passion for Northeastern.”

Carpenito was as an assistant coach at Union during the 2013-14 season where he oversaw the development and execution of practices and was heavily involved in recruiting, scouting, film study and travel coordination.

Prior to Union, Carpenito spent two years as a varsity assistant coach and head junior varsity coach at Elmira.

Carpenito worked and played with the Northeastern club hockey teams as an undergraduate student. He played for the NU men’s team from 2008 to 2011 and simultaneously coached the women’s club team, which won the 2011 ECWHL playoff championship and finished as the national runner up in Division I of the ACHA. Carpenito was named the ACHA Division I coach of the year in 2011 after previously being named a finalist for the award in 2009 and 2010.
